American Red Cross Training

Adult CPR/AED

Adult CPR AED Choking Workplace

Course Overview

The American Red Cross Adult CPR/AED course is a popular choice for workplace CPR and AED training. It prepares employees and other participants to recognize and respond to breathing and cardiac emergencies involving adults, including performing CPR, using an automated external defibrillator (AED), and responding to choking emergencies.

For many businesses and organizations, Adult CPR/AED provides a practical, focused training option without the additional instruction associated with pediatric CPR or comprehensive first aid courses. It is particularly well suited for general workplace training sessions where adult CPR and AED skills are the primary training objectives.

Employers requiring first aid coverage, pediatric CPR, or additional emergency-response skills should consider Adult & Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED or one of our expanded training options.

What You Will Learn

Course content includes training related to:

  • Recognizing adult breathing and cardiac emergencies.
  • Checking for responsiveness and taking appropriate emergency action.
  • Calling for emergency medical assistance and directing bystanders to help.
  • Performing high-quality CPR for adults.
  • Using an automated external defibrillator (AED) safely and promptly.
  • Responding to choking emergencies involving adults.
  • Practicing emergency-response skills in realistic scenarios.

Course Formats

Adult CPR/AED may be offered in blended-learning or fully instructor-led formats, depending on the scheduled class.

Blended Learning
Participants complete the Red Cross online coursework before attending a required instructor-led skills session.

Instructor-Led
Knowledge content, hands-on practice, and required skill evaluations are completed with an instructor.

What to Expect During the Online Portion

In blended-learning classes, participants complete interactive online material covering adult emergency recognition, CPR, AED use, and choking response. The online coursework must be completed before the scheduled hands-on skills session.

Completing the online portion alone does not complete the blended-learning certification course.

What to Expect During the In-Person Skills Session

Participants practice adult CPR and AED skills using CPR manikins and AED training equipment. The instructor demonstrates techniques, observes performance, provides corrective feedback, and evaluates applicable skills and scenarios.

Successful Course Completion

Participants must complete all applicable course requirements, including the online component for blended-learning classes and the required in-person skill evaluations.

Upon successful completion, participants receive an American Red Cross Adult CPR/AED digital certificate valid for two years. Digital certificates may be viewed, printed, shared, and verified electronically.

American Red Cross Training

First Aid for Severe Trauma (FAST)

Severe Bleeding Direct Pressure Tourniquets Scene Safety Trauma Response

Course Overview

The American Red Cross First Aid for Severe Trauma (FAST) course prepares participants to recognize and respond to life-threatening bleeding emergencies and other critical situations involving severe traumatic injury.

FAST is a national STOP THE BLEED® course developed to help participants take decisive, lifesaving action during the first critical minutes of an emergency while professional responders are on the way.

Although FAST was originally designed with high school students in mind, the course is appropriate for a much broader audience and can benefit adults, employees, community organizations, and others who want practical training in severe bleeding control and emergency response.

What You Will Learn

FAST focuses on the actions a bystander or responder can take when confronted with a traumatic injury involving life-threatening bleeding.

Course content includes training related to:

  • Preparing for bleeding emergencies.
  • Recognizing when bleeding may be life threatening.
  • Determining when and how to act during an emergency.
  • Following appropriate emergency action steps.
  • Maintaining personal safety and helping protect others at the scene.
  • Responding appropriately in potentially unsafe or violent situations.
  • Communicating effectively with other people at the scene.
  • Communicating important information to an emergency dispatcher.
  • Using direct pressure to control life-threatening bleeding.
  • Applying a tourniquet when appropriate.
  • Providing continued care after severe bleeding has been controlled.
  • Applying bleeding-control skills during hands-on and scenario-based activities.

Course Formats

First Aid for Severe Trauma may be offered in either blended-learning or fully instructor-led formats, depending on the scheduled class.

Blended Learning
The blended-learning format combines approximately 90 minutes of online coursework with approximately 45 minutes of instructor-led, hands-on skills and scenario-based learning.

Instructor-Led
The fully instructor-led FAST course is approximately 135 minutes and combines classroom instruction with hands-on skills practice and scenario-based learning.

What to Expect During the Online Portion

In a blended-learning FAST course, participants complete the online portion before attending the instructor-led skills session.

The online portion introduces the knowledge and decision-making concepts needed to recognize a life-threatening bleeding emergency and respond appropriately. Participants work through topics involving emergency preparedness, scene safety, communication, direct pressure, tourniquet use, and care after bleeding has been controlled.

The online course is interactive and self-paced and can be completed using a compatible computer, tablet, or mobile device.

The required online coursework must be completed before attending the instructor-led skills session. The online-only FAST course is separate from the full blended-learning certification course and results only in a completion certificate rather than the full course certification.

What to Expect During the In-Person Skills Session

The in-person portion focuses on physically performing the bleeding-control skills introduced during the online coursework.

Participants should expect hands-on practice using training tourniquets and other appropriate bleeding-control training materials. The skills session also incorporates scenario-based activities intended to reinforce both technical skills and emergency decision-making.

During the skills session, the instructor will:

  • Demonstrate appropriate bleeding-control techniques.
  • Guide participants through the use of direct pressure.
  • Teach and reinforce proper tourniquet application.
  • Observe participant technique and provide corrective feedback.
  • Reinforce scene safety and emergency communication principles.
  • Use scenario-based activities to help participants apply the skills in realistic situations.
  • Evaluate applicable skills and course requirements for successful completion.

Because FAST is highly practical, participants should expect active involvement in the skills session rather than a primarily lecture-based classroom experience.

Why Severe Bleeding Training Matters

Severe blood loss can become life threatening within minutes. Immediate action by a trained bystander can help control bleeding and provide critical care during the time between an injury and the arrival of professional emergency responders.

FAST is designed to give participants both the knowledge and the hands-on experience needed to recognize when bleeding is life threatening and take appropriate action with greater confidence.

Successful Course Completion

Participants must successfully complete all applicable course requirements. For blended-learning classes, this includes completion of the required online coursework before the scheduled instructor-led skills session, along with successful completion of the required hands-on skills and scenario-based activities.

Upon successful completion of the full instructor-led or blended-learning FAST course, participants receive an American Red Cross First Aid for Severe Trauma (FAST) certification.

Red Cross digital credentials can be accessed electronically and may be viewed, printed, or shared for verification when applicable.
